Full Name:

Voyo Woo

What do you do professionally?

I am a multi-disciplinary artist. My professional journey has included roles as a former TV producer and camerawoman, an administrator at an international auction house, and an interpreter for the U.S. State Department. At this stage, I am focusing on raising my three children, making art that spreads positivity, and practicing energy balancing.

What do you want to do (professionally and/or personally)?

I aspire to be a healer and a connector to help bridge the gap between humanity, nature, and the universe. I hope that through my work as an energy balancing coach and as an artist, I can help people align with their true selves and find peace. I am currently facilitating energy balancing workshops for those who are ready for them. My most recent artistic project is a series of paper sculptural masks that combine paper sculptures, performance, and photography. This series was born from a guided meditation I participated in, where I envisioned a magnificent heavenly palace. The vividness of that experience left me with a deep desire to share it through the creation of paper masks. The series explores themes of unity, harmony, and interconnectedness with nature, reminding people of our shared origins and the interconnectedness of all living beings and the universe. Through this project, I collaborate with photographers, performers, and photo editors. I aim to inspire viewers to reflect on their relationships with themselves, others, nature, and the world around them. I’d like to continue developing this body of work while experimenting with other artistic projects.

Do you have any passion projects or ideas you want to explore?

Yes! I’m passionate about creating artwork that evokes positivity and hope, bringing light into the lives of others. On a side note, I am passionate about preserving Hmong embroidery from the ethnic group in Southwest China. I felt a calling to it when I traveled to Southwest China and saw, for the first time, these handcrafted embroideries. It takes months and sometimes years to make one piece of embroidery, and no younger generation wants to spend time learning this technique because they can’t make money doing it, and the time feels “not worth it.” Funny enough, during one of my work trips for the U.S. State Department, I was able to connect a client from China with the Hmong community in Washington State, where they happened to speak the same dialects and could communicate with each other. The two parties have had a few discussions on how to preserve the craft and culture, especially for the next generation. I have volunteered on a documentary short that tells the legends of embroidery from that region, and worked on a website that sells the embroidery overseas so that women in these ethnic villages can get paid for making them and live sustainably. My passion for preserving these crafts stems from the belief that the highest-skilled crafts represent true human invention and the highest level of human craftsmanship, which cannot be replaced by robots or machines. This is what distinguishes us—the patience, creativity, and endurance to create these crafts and artworks. It represents the highest human qualities, and I am so amazed by these qualities that I want to help preserve them.

Who inspires you? Why?

Almost every time I have an interaction with another human, I find inspiration. I believe there’s a reason for every encounter, and I find inspiration in the smallest moments. Whether it’s the loving gaze of a mother at her child, a text message filled with kindness from a neighbor, or the heartfelt sharing of experiences during a workshop at Creative+ —these encounters remind me that inspiration is all around us.

Hobbies / Interests / Things that bring you joy:

A good meditation and energy balancing session. Good music, art and good company. The heartfelt smile or a mischievous squint on my children’s faces always brings me tremendous joy. The existence of humanity and the power of life is such a wonder of joy.

Greatest accomplishments:

My greatest accomplishments are being able to help people feel better about themselves and the world around them. I am also proud of my growth in balancing my many roles—as a daughter, wife, mother, artist, and energy balancing coach. And if I have the time, being a good friend to those who need me brings me joy and fulfillment.

Future accomplishments:

Future accomplishments will come as I continue to fulfill my current roles and responsibilities through hard work and kindness.

What excites you about being a Creative + Member?

Creative+ has been an incredibly supportive community. The space is very versatile. Amanda supported me in doing my first solo immersive art installation in town. I’ve hosted an energy balancing workshop and gathering there. I’ve participated in multiple workshops that have benefited me in many different ways. Creative+ has continually brought fascinating new workshops, such as the Journey with Allison Smith—a great workshop that helped us reflect and take a pause in our busy lives to reflect on how we feel, how we want to feel, and what to do in order to reconnect with ourselves.

It has helped me find my way, make meaningful connections with others, and engage with organizations that align with my values. Through its diverse workshops and social events, I feel that I have gained so much. Amanda, the founder, introduced me to this incredible space, and I’m grateful for the opportunities it has opened up.

Best piece of advice you have ever been given:

Everything is the best arrangement. Just embrace everything along the way—be it failure, success, joy, or sorrow—they are all part of your journey to help shape who you are.

Who is someone you want to collaborate with? Why?

I am thrilled to announce that I will be collaborating with Echo, the incredible woman founder of Fou Gallery, to offer a “Healing Through Paper Vase Making” workshop on April 26th at their Manhattan location. This workshop is a 90-minute journey of mindfulness and creativity as we transform recycled materials into beautiful paper clay vases. Using old newspapers, single-use plastics, and other waste, participants will explore the therapeutic act of mixing, molding, and painting paper clay. The workshop begins with a calming seated yoga session to relax the body, followed by guided instructions to craft your own vase. If you’re interested in signing up, click HERE.

In terms of art making, I would be thrilled to collaborate with neuroscientists, machine learning engineers, and VR/AR specialists to work on an immersive art project. This collaboration would aim to create an experience that helps participants feel enlightened and deeply connected to the present moment.
